51-year-old Diane Patrick was born Diane Bemus Whiting on December 17, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York. She is one of three children born to John Charles Bemus, a U.S. Navy veteran and former owner of Bemus Electrical, an electrical contracting business and Lilian Baker, daughter of Bertram L. Baker, the first black elected to the state Legislature.
Her mom, a former professor at the Brooklyn Schools, passed away in 2009; her dad, was 91, when he died of cancer in January 2015. In addition to Diane, Mr. and Mrs. Bemus were the proud parents of Lynn Prime and John Bemus of Long Island, NY.
Diane graduated from Queens College and the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. She worked as a labor lawyer with O’Melveny & Myers in L.A and NY.
Deval and his lovely wife tied the knot on May 5, 1984, in the Brooklyn home. This was the Governor’s first marriage and second for Diane.
They are the parents of their two daughters, Katherine (b. 1989) and Sarah (b. 1985). They reside in Richmond, Massachusetts.
